The Isle of Jura had its own mainland ferry until thirty years ago which sailed between Lagg and Keills in Kintyre. At this moment there is a trial passenger ferry service (summer only) from the mainland. Car access to Jura during the entire year and passenger access to Jura outside the summer season is only possible by using the ferry between Islay and Jura. This ferry leaves from Port Askaig, and crosses the fast flowing Sound of Islay, to reach Feolin in a little over five minutes. On a nice day the crossing is a pleasure and offers the visitor beautiful views of the Paps of Jura, but don’t forget to look back! Islay is beautiful from the sea, no matter from what angle you are looking. The costs for return tickets are: £17,10 for a vehicle, £3,20 for each passenger and kids are £1,80.
